Ranking of Office Vacancy Rates in Major U.S. Cities – Central Business District and Suburban – Fourth Quarter 2006Alex Carrick -- February 26, 2007Among 54 major U.S. urban centres, Charlotte (5.9%) has the lowest office vacancy rate downtown and Honolulu (10.0%), the lowest in the suburbs, in the latest figures (fourth-quarter 2006) compiled by PPR. Oklahoma City (32.7%) has the highest vacancy rate downtown, while Boston (22.1%) has the highest vacancy rate in the suburbs. However, Boston (along with another high-tech ringleader, San José), is among the cities with the sharpest drops in suburban vacancy rates in the latest period. Two cities appear among the "10 lowest" in both their central business districts and the suburbs — Washington and Honolulu. Two cities appear among the "10 highest" both downtown and in the suburbs — Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta. San Francisco is an anomaly, appearing among the "10 lowest" downtown, but among the "10 highest" in the suburbs. |
